When my husband Stephan set up the foundation in 1994, he broke new ground in developing the concept of entrepreneurial philanthropy. From an early stage he focused his activities on Latin America as well as Switzerland. Avina – which stands for ‘Acción Vida y Naturaleza’ – Action for Life and Nature – has supported an impressive number of people and projects over the past 20 years.
In November 2017, Stephan stepped down from the Avina Board of Trustees and handed over to me as President. Together with the Board of Trustees, I will do my utmost to ensure that this unique organisation continues its work in keeping with Stephan’s vision and ideals.
