Switzerland’s mountain environment is unique: thanks to the unstinting efforts of the local population, it is both a fertile habitat and a pleasant place for leisure activities. Swiss Sponsorship for Mountain Communities supports the people living in Alpine areas. It arranges sponsorships from more prosperous areas of the country, providing financial assistance to ensure that the mountain regions remain habitable, managed and maintained. The organisation boasts a long-standing tradition, and we enthusiastically support their work.

Projects in the Bernese Oberland, Valais, Fribourg, Lucerne and the Jura are particularly close to our hearts, and this year we are supporting the Maternité Alpine maternity facility and the market hall in Zweisimmen.

Given that the market hall built on the outskirts in 1956 was getting ever closer to the centre as the village expanded, the decision was taken to construct a new building rather than undertake a major renovation. The new market hall will serve a number of purposes, including as a venue for livestock events. This project makes an important contribution to maintaining agriculture in the region.

The Maternité Alpine maternity facility in Zweisimmen offers basic services, both inpatient and outpatient, for pregnancies, births and initial postnatal care. This ensures that the child comes into the world in a safe and protected environment, and that mother and baby can recover from the birth in peace and security.
